Geraldton offers a strong community environment with a well‑established sporting culture, family‑friendly lifestyle and access to beautiful coastal recreation. As a regional centre, Geraldton provides the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution within a connected community, while enjoying lifestyle balance, shorter commute times and access to a wide range of regional amenities.
Geraldton Tennis Centre (GTC) is a vibrant community tennis facility providing coaching, competition and participation opportunities for juniors and adults. GTC was formed following an amalgamation between the Geraldton Tennis Club and the Spalding Park Tennis Club in July 2024, both longstanding clubs with a history dating back to 1872. The amalgamation was undertaken to create a more sustainable and efficient organisation through shared resources, volunteers, expertise and finances.
The Centre currently has approximately 200 members and maintains 25 courts – 2 hard courts with lighting and 23 grass courts – complemented by a large clubhouse facility offering equipment storage and potential pro shop space. GTC uses the ClubSpark platform for membership management, coaching program administration and court bookings, providing an integrated and user‑friendly system for members, coaches and administrators.
GTC has recently completed both a Strategic Plan and a Master Plan. Detailed engineering design work is underway to deliver a significant facility upgrade, including:
• 6 new hard courts with lighting – substantially increasing coaching capacity and enabling evening programs
• 4 pickleball courts
• 3 padel courts
These additions will diversify on‑court activity, open new revenue streams and position GTC as the leading racquet sports facility in the Mid West region.
Over 100 junior and adult players are currently engaged across the Centre’s coaching programs, including a structured volunteer coaching model for juniors that provides a strong foundation for participation and player development. The Centre also delivers beginner adult programs and other participation activities that generate regular on‑court demand.
The existing player base will transition to the incoming Development Coach, providing a strong foundation from day one. The current interim coach is a prominent Club member who is stepping back from the role, and GTC anticipates a smooth handover with good continuity of participation.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced coach looking to take on a meaningful role within a welcoming regional community. Working as part of the GTC team, the Development Coach will be engaged to deliver and grow the Centre’s coaching programs, while also having the flexibility to develop their own income through school coaching and private lessons.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to:
• Deliver and develop coaching programs for juniors and adults
• Build their own client base through private coaching and school programs
• Leverage a strong local school network for before‑school, during‑school and holiday programs
• Grow income alongside growing hard‑court capacity and emerging sports (pickleball and padel)
• Work within a supportive Club environment with an established and enthusiastic membership base
• Contribute to the Centre’s long‑term development and staged facility upgrades
• Collaborate with GTC on participation growth initiatives, community partnerships and potential grant‑funded programs that improve access for juniors and underrepresented groups
The Development Coach will work closely with the GTC Committee and contribute to the direction of coaching programs and participation strategy in a collaborative and forward‑looking environment.
GTC has intentionally structured this role as a pathway opportunity for the right candidate. The successful Development Coach will have the opportunity to transition into the Head Coach role within an agreed timeframe, subject to mutual fit and performance. This creates a genuine pathway to building and leading the Centre’s full coaching program, with significant long‑term income and professional growth potential.
The remuneration structure recognises both the coach’s contribution to GTC programs and their opportunity to generate independent income. It comprises two components:
GTC Program Delivery
Where the coach delivers coaching on behalf of GTC (e.g. running the junior club program, beginner adult programs), they will be paid an agreed hourly rate by GTC for those hours.
Independent Coaching Income
The Development Coach is encouraged to build their own coaching income through private lessons and school programs. Coaching delivered independently of GTC programs is the coach’s own revenue. This provides a genuine opportunity to grow personal earnings alongside GTC program work.
Additional income opportunities will grow over time through school holiday programs and the development of pickleball and padel offerings as new courts come online. The new hard courts will also directly increase coaching capacity, adding further income potential to an already popular program.
GTC has intentionally structured the Development Coach role as a pathway to Head Coach. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to transition into the Head Coach role within an agreed timeframe, subject to mutual fit and performance. As Head Coach, all coaching revenue – from both GTC programs and independent coaching – would be entirely the Head Coach’s own income, with no share retained by the Centre. As the Centre grows and new courts come online, this income potential will only increase.
